Rabbi Cohen turned down offers from a prestigious doctoral program in mathematical physics to continue learning full-time at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS), where he received semicha and subsequently enjoyed a four-year fellowship in the Wexner Kollel Elyon. He graduated summa cum laude from Yeshiva College with a double concentration in Physics and Mathematics, and served as the Mazer Yeshiva Program valedictorian. He came from Torah Vodaas to learn under Rav Hershel Schachter and concomitantly pursue his fascination with linguistics and mathematics. Rabbi Tanchum Cohen is a proud talmid of Yeshiva University. Additionally, Rabbi Brownstein is a practicing Rav in Brooklyn and has published Judaic works. Rabbi Brownstein also serves as a College Guidance counselor. Expository and Persuasive Writing are imperatives that are vigorously pursued. English Language Arts classes study Vocabulary as a preparation for SAT exams and to familiarize the student with terms used in science, art, and technology, as mandated by the Core Curriculum of the State University of New York. Senior classes study literature that defines self, purpose, community, and maturation. His junior classes explore American literature from historical, political, and philosophical perspectives. He entered the field of education as an instructor of Jewish Philosophy, Talmud, Chumash, and English Language Arts over 40 years ago – a career that personifies Torah U’Madda. As a member of the Honors College faculty, Rabbi Brownstein and colleagues plan intellectually stimulating events and trips for a select group of High School juniors. Rabbi Brownstein teaches Honors and non-Honors English Language Arts. Of note is that the Berliner “men” have bonded while visiting World Series, Super Bowls, the floor of the Grand Canyon, Machu Pichu, Grand Coulee, and a large assortment of train stations and museums on the East Coast (and even farther afield). When not biking, performing menial tasks around the house, or delving into an eclectic collection of reading material, Ed and Debbie love going to shiurim and traveling. and are the proud parents of three YUHSB alumni sons (Avi, Josh, and Jon), three daughters-in-law (Rachel, Ariella and Leora), three grandsons (Matanel, Lior and Asaf), and three granddaughters (Yakira, Jill and Violet) who never tire of hearing the YUSHB stories around the Shabbat table. Berliner also serves as Director of the YUHSB Honors College.ĭr. He has an appointment as Executive Director of Science Management/ Clinical Professor of Physics in the University, he teaches AP Calculus and AP Physics in the High School and he has played an integral role in the building of new science labs in the University and both High Schools.
